Now I know this late according to some people but I’m the type of writer where I can’t write until I have some real to reflect on and have content to back it up.
Chris Rock as the host of The Oscars, tackling #OscarsSoWhite boycott and lack of diversity
At the 88th 2016 Academy Awards, Chris Rock hosts The Oscars , (in my opinion) dove right in and found a eloquent and comedic way of addressing the boycott (started by Jada Pinkett Smith, in defense of the lack of diversity in award nominees and categories aka the neglect of her actor husband, Will Smith), the lack of diversity in Hollywood and references to hashtag #OscarsSoWhite. Rock was able to get people out of their comfort zones and pay more attention by showing up and hosting the show even though some of his actor comrades would have preferred he not take the job. I mean, can’t you make more if s difference being in the room than not even in the game to start.
Now that I’ve said all of that, my subconscious reminded that Chris Rock had already addressed the issue of diversity and calling out the African American community a few years back in a HBO special, The Black List. His piece was one of my favorite because it not only make me want to stand up and take accountability for my own legacy but gave me the permission to fail at something but still get back up on my feet and keep going. Jada (as much as I love you), should’ve watched this because it may have been one of his best but you forgot you and your family are in position where if someone said you sucked, you’d still be okay. You are also in a position of power to create your own Black Academy Award Show (if you are ready, solicit my services for branding concepts and marketing).
Take a look at the clip and be reminded to get up and go to work for what you want, get in the room and let’s get to the point where we create our own opportunities and leverage our resources…you will still be awesome if you sucked!!

Stop Co-Mingling Funds
As a bookkeeping consultant I have the pleasure of working with a wide range of businesses owners. One common mistake that 50% of them make is co-mingling funds. Entrepreneurs and small business owners please STOP co-mingling funds, I beg of you. If you have not been made aware it is poor business practice and something that happens way to often.
What is co-mingling funds you ask. Co-mingling of funds is when one uses there personal checking account as their business account. There are many reasons why one should not co-mingle personal and business funds. One reason why is, it creates an extensive workload for your bookkeeper/accountant who has to spend countless hours deciphering between what is a business expense and what is not. Another reason is, the co-mingling of funds limits your ability to see your company’s growth in revenue. It is EXTREMELY important to separate personal income from business income. Without separating the two It is hard to get a clear picture of how your business is doing financially.
Tips to help resolve your co-mingling funds issue
The first step to take in solving this problem is open a business checking account. Be sure to shop around to ensure you get the best deal. Having a business checking account allows for all business income and expenses to debited or credited from that one account. This also forces you to pay yourself first, which means transferring funds from the business account to your personal account to take care of expenses that can not be classified and business expenses.
Keep in mind that your business account should be used for business transactions only. Be sure to keep accurate financial records. If that is not your strong suit higher a certified bookkeeper to handle that aspect of your business. I guarantee your stress levels will diminish come next tax season.

Us fashion crooners are always looking for a new hot exclusive line to welcome to our closets. With summer approaching, we all want to be fresh from head to toe. With apparel lines on a major rise, our closets are looking for some attention from different clothing lines. It seems as though underground lines are the “new thing”, Me personally I love rocking apparel, a fly t-shirt or hoodie with some sneakers are always a go to for me when I want to dress it down, but still be one the best dressed in the room while not wearing the normal sexy dress and heels. Us keyholders here at Society Keeper are always on the look out for the hottest trends as well as the hottest up and coming designers.
We recently came across the Atlanta based clothing line, Occhio Black. With the name meaning “The Black Eye of Success”, it gives a fresh, refined, but urban appeal. Looking through the various pieces, this line is definitely worth mentioning, or spending money on rather. The line was founded in 2011 in Savannah, GA by Brooklyn native Eric Poole who now resides in Atlanta, GA. According to Mr. Poole he had been selling clothes his whole life starting with his mother owning a store. It all started with $60, some tees from Walmart, and paint; things flourished from there. Sounds like a humble beginning doesn’t it? The line began when Eric attended Savannah State University in Savannah. It was then he started to sell his clothing out of own home and the line was instant hot commodity among the campus which later became relevant in the music and fashion.
After being around for a few years now, the line carries some notoriety. With stars like Teyana Taylor wearing the apparel, and appearances on notable television shows such as MTV’s Black Ink, Occhio Black is definitely a line to look out for. It reminds us of the likes of other apparel lines on online boutiques such as Karmaloop. However, this line offers something different, it is fresh and cutting edge along with it’s nostalgic logo of a bleeding eye. The CEO, Eric Poole, describes the line as “Eclectic, different, street…”. ECLECTIC! The perfect adjective to describe this brand. We can’t wait to see what more this brand has to offer! We’re absolutely confident the next collection from this brand will blow us away!
So where can you get gear from this brand? You can shop online the brand’s website http://www.occhioblack.com. Also follow their Instagram while you’re at it! @occhio_blk_clothing
